Across the globe, tourists and sunbathers can find swimming pools that span football fields and make doing laps a nearly impossible feat. The world’s largest and most impressive pools are awe-inspiring, enticing, and just asking for a cannonball. Check out some of the largest in the world; you’ll soon be wishing your backyard was bigger…
- The world’s largest pool is at the San Alfonso del Mar Resort in Chile. Larger than 10 football fields, it holds 66 million gallons of water and holds the Guinness World Record for the deepest pool, at 115 feet deep. Rumor has it that the water is so clear you can see the bottom, even at those depths. Amazingly, the pool pulls in its water from the neighboring Pacific Ocean, filtering it and cycling it for its lucky visitors. If you think your pool upkeep is expensive, this pool costs $2 million in annual maintenance!
2. Geothermal Spa anyone? In Iceland, the “Blue Lagoon” geothermal lagoon is naturally heated to 98 – 104 degrees F, and measures 5,000 square meters and 2.3 million gallons. The water emerges from deep below the earth, picking up silica and minerals along the way—providing a once-in-a-lifetime retreat in beautiful Iceland.
3. We go to Singapore for number 3: the Marina Sands Skypark pool. Not only is it a huge infinity pool, but it is the world’s largest rooftop infinity pool, located 57 floors up. The views are stellar; we just hope you don’t have a fear of heights!
4. The world’s deepest indoor pool, Nemo 33, is located in Brussels, Belgium. Nemo is a famous haven and training center for scuba divers from across the world.
5. Now for a pool unlike any other. In Houston, the Neutral Buoyancy Laboratory pool at the Johnson Space Center holds 6.2 million gallons of water. I bet your pool doesn’t have a full-scale mock-up of the International Space Station submerged within it—for training purposes of course!
Whether they’re deep, vast, or picturesque, these swimming pools would certainly make taking a dip a new experience. To get started on your own backyard escape, contact us at Land Concepts Luxury Outdoor Living.
